Am I in a minority of people who read other people's LJ comments before adding my own, just so that I'm not repeating what somebody else wrote?

Just wondering...

I always try to, but sometimes there's that one person who posts just as you do and, whoops, we have a duplicate. Shpedoikal!
LOL - well yeah, if two people post at the same time, that's understandable :) But when two people basically say THE EXACT SAME THING but one posted like, 2 or three hours before...I mean come on...

The sky is blue and all the leaves are greeeeeen ;)
I do that.
It's just common courtesy, right?
I *always* do ~ for that reason, or to comment or add to what someone else said. Seems kind of silly to ignore everyone else when it's right in front of your face. Except for Alex's journal when like, fifty people respond to a post ~ I don't have enough time to read through that many comments.

Actually, I'm generally less likely to comment on anything that's already drawn a huge response ~ but Alex's journal is an exception because it's generally fluffy enough that I bop in and out purely on whim.
agreed - I mean, Alex will get an ungodly ammount of posts (hey Alex! How many have you gotten today? Last I checked it was over 140 ;P) and then it's hard to check each and every thread to see if your point was made.

But if it's small, you want to check it out. Personally, I feel that if I were to repeat something it sounds like I'm doing it just to speak. If someone had the same idea that I had, I might comment to that saying "I was just going to say that!" and maybe ellaborate if I felt the need...

I do that. Except for this time. It would be silly to repeat something that has already been said.
Well this is an acceptable exception :)

But to have two people make the same joke spaced over hours, or even days, is just...I don't know...tacky?
It depends. If it is a "Does the Post Office charge extra for Saturday delivery" kind of question then of course. There is only one right answer and it is a solid and straight forward answer. Most other things yeah I read but not always. A lot of times you are talking about opinions ("Where is the best place to buy cheap yarn online?" "What do you think about my hair style?") or things where more voices are better (this post, even if what I had to say was word for what what someone else said I'd at least (usually, or if I felt strongly enough) second that or resay it in my own words or whatever) and when they are 150 comments I rarely read them all. When it is something where you can read the comments without having to open lots of extra windows for responses and responses to responses though yes of course.

So I guess I'm the least read before post person responding :)
but if you were asking for yarn, and two one person said store a, and someone else was going to say store a, they just shouldn't say it - or, they should find another store to suggest.

I suppose some people just don't read LJ comments in other people's LJ, but I enjoy seeing what other people have to say or suggest. I think some people feel that their comment is the only one valid? I don't know...

We need a holt handbook for LJ usage!
This is what I mean, I want to respond to your comment to me but I'm to stupid to hit reply. (This is even worse when it is the origional poster doing it so the person they are responding to may never see it unless they go back and check.)
Yes - I get what you mean now and I understand. I've always wondered why people do that - if it's stupidity or just an accident.
I will add to the voices (and say what many others have just said...) and say that I always read the comments first. I would feel stupid if I repeated something that someone just said. I am especially careful about this in communities, and will not answer a question if it is asking for information and 3 other people have ALREADY given the exactly same information that I would give.
not if there is like fucking 25+ before me ... like right now!
I try, but sometimes I miss one. Or sometimes there's just too many to sift through.

Or sometimes, I'm just a lonely voice screaming out in the wilderness, aching to be heard...or something else very goth.
It depends, if it's a question on opinions I'll read it, depending on weather or not I'm really interested in what other people think. Or how busy I am. Or if there's a ton. Like in here. I'll skim then and read if I see something interesting.
Never check comments before posting their exact words, I'm just psychic:

Oh Adam, I love you like burning.
I suppose I undersand where you're coming from, but just be glad you're not in the extra special "I have to milk comments by talking about things I dont care about or suffer the consequences of being bored with no one writing to me" category...
I'll write you a letter today if you promise to write me one back.

You ungrateful emo boy!
