Good: Hanging out with my cousins
Better: Drinking with said cousins
Best: Having the cops get called because our flippy cup tourney got a little loud

This past weekend I went to Spearfish, SD for the Strand Family reunion. It's been 4 years since our last reunion and this was the first time ALL of us got to be there. 1 Great Grandma, 9 Aunts and Uncles, 26 Grandchildren, 14 Great Grandchildren for a total of 50 people. We dominated the Spearfish Travel Lodge and had a wonderful time.

Memorable moments:
My cousin Mike (31) handed his brother Chris (37) his cell phone while he was busy playing poker. Chris then started drunk dialing everybody in his phone and then handing it around. "Quick!" he would say, "just say '(insert name), you sonuvabitch, I'm pregnant!' It'll be great!" It was all well and good until we dialed Mike's future father-in-law, Theo. He took it well and nobody got in trouble, even though it was probably about 2am when he answered the phone.

My cousin Aileen has a daughter named Katie who's probably 2ish. For probably a year I've had a song for her in mind, which is "Sister Kate" by the DittyBops. Well, when I finally got to meet her, I started signing the song to her ("I like to shimmy like my sister Kate! Shakin' like a bowl of jelly on a plate!"). The moment I stopped she shrieked "DO EET 'GAIN!" Over all, I probably sang the song a hundred times this weekend. Most importantly though - I taught her how to shimmy, and she can even say the word too.

I got my ass handed to me by my 13 year old cousin (techincally, 1st cousin once removed) in the cribbage tournament. He whooped me by 23 points. Ouch.

Telling Braden (who's seven) that my tongue stud is the result of sticking my tongue out too far when my parents told me not to.

My family is really amazing. Four generations, no jail time, and we're all finding our own ways to be successful. I road to the airport with my cousin Paul and Braden and Paul was just amazed and so proud of our family. And it's true - we're a great bunch of people, we're all connected even if we don't get to see each other very often, we care about each other and there's nothing like getting hugs from everybody as you have to be the first one to leave the party.

And yes - the cops were called. To my Aunt's house. My Aunt who is also a grandmother and just retired from teaching at BHSU. It was great.

Wow, that must've been hard to take. I'd have been grumpy all day from that.

AHAHAHAHAHA, that sounds like something you'd tell a young'n, way to go :-D
