Fluorine
I had a really creepy dream the other night. For some reason, I decided to take out my back teeth and look at them. So I pulled them out of my mouth – I was surprised that I could do that so easily. When I looked at them, most of the sides had been ground away – there were big gaping holes and some of them were only half a tooth. Apparently, dreams about losing your teeth means you have social anxiety. In my dream, I was at the EC dance, so maybe I still have reservations about going back to SNC.

Uranium
I’m a little apprehentious about going to dinner this Friday because it’s going to be sushi, and I have NEVER had sushi in my life. I’m really not all that into sea food, and I’m not a HUGE fan of fish, but I thought that hey – how many times do I get to have dinner with my favorite author? So I’m being adventurous and trying it out. TO ALL MY SUSHI EATING FRIENDS: What kind do you recommend for a person just trying it for the first time?

Carbon
While at one of my many trips to Target I picked up a book called “Shadowmancer.” I think it was the book Nick was telling me about earlier this summer, but since he hasn’t returned my email, I don’t know for sure. But what I do know is that it’s fairly interesting. There’s something about it that reminds me of “Albion’s Dream” but I’m still rather early in the book (by the by – I highly recommend “Albion’s Dream” to everybody. That is, if you can find a copy…).

Potassium
Apparently some highschool text books now have a huge sticker on them proclaiming “EVOLUTION IS A THEORY NOT A FACT!” Honestly people, you might as well have a sticker saying “WARNING: THIS BOOK CONTAINS BIG WORDS THAT YOU PROBABLY WON’T UNDERSTAND. GO BACK TO READING YOUR BIBLE.” Come on people. Why do we have to fight this battle day in and day out? Also, some schools are now teaching creationism as well. Over 300 angry science teachers went to protest. The damn fundies just don’t want to learn. Lazy bastards. I mean, they don’t have to accept it, but they should learn it and not make life harder for the normal people.

Yttrium
Garden State is still fabulous on a fourth viewing. Or was that my fifth? I’ve lost count.

Oxygen
I watched Adult Swim much later than I normally do. Typically I go to bed after Family Guy so I can get some reading in before I crash. Last night I just stayed up and watched until about 12:30. I have to say – I have been missing out on a lot of great shows. Damn my early bed time!

Uranium
Today’s links were brought to you by Michael Swanwick's Periodic Table of Science Fiction. If you have time today, I highly recommend you go over there and check them out. I’m a big fan of Phosphorus.

PS – What’s today’s secret message?

Go for Unagi, It's BBQ'd eel. Cooked and smells really good.

Or if you still want to go raw, go toro. It's fatty tuna and yummy!
I don't know if I have the courage for raw, but tuna is a fish I know I can handle.

The BBQ'd eel does sound good though!
I've only had sushi a couple times, and we always got a boat for N, N being the number of people in the group. That provided us with a good variety and let me try a little bit of everything. I particularly liked the salmon based pieces, and the fried eel made for a good dessert.
I have no idea how the whole dinner is going to work out (there will be 7, I think, of us dining together) but I'll try the salmon!

I think the eel is a definate, just to say I ate eel.
I mix it up a bit though I usually get either a spider or a catapillar. They're sushi arranged to look like their namesake. Which reminds me; sake is goood.
OOoh - I may have to try one of those - what is normally in them?

And yes, Sake is DAMN good. A few years ago, Reecie, Graham and I went on a booze run to Safeway and picked up a bottle. We had it warmed and it totally hit the spot on a cold december night.
I've never had much sushi, but I know that they servie it with dipping sauce. The dipping sauce is usually very good, so if you can't stand the sushi (but I think it'll probably grow on you) just drown it in sauce...

You're secret message is mean :( I had to think for a minute, but then I remembered with the scientific symbol for potassium is :P
Hahahha, yeah, I know my message is mean, but that was the only think I could think of to spell off the top of my head. Maybe next time I'll try a more positive message :)
California rolls are simple, non-exotic sushi- just crab and avocado (although some have roe- fish eggs). I'd start with those.
well, I DO like crab, so I'll try that to start!

Thanks! :)
I figured it out! What's sad is it was the Uranium that threw me. It's not one that was beat into my head by my craptacular Chem. teacher.

What do you have going on Saturday late morning/early afternoon?
FIDDLER'S GREEN! It's going on this whole weekend. I'm not sure what the program looks like exactly, but Graham and I might have some free time open.

Why you ask?
Just remember that because it is served raw, sushi is the highest quality seafood you can get. It's extremely fresh and will be less fishy-tasting than you expect.
hmmm - I will keep that in mind! THank you!

Do you have a favorite sushi dish I should try?
California rolls are definitely the place to start with sushi, then if you're feeling brave you can branch out from there.

That means you watched Venture Brothers, right? It's a brilliant show - incredibly funny and full of random references to everything from Johnny Quest to David Bowie, with wacky villains of the variety you might find in the Tick. Plus there's an episode with pirates that I just know you'd love.

(end of pimping. for now.)
Venture Brothers kicks ASS!!!

I just wish watching it didn't mean going to bed at a godawful hour :(
If you're not that into fish, you might want to try cucumber rolls or egg. They're both quite good. I also agree with California Rolls on the taste (although I've gotten quite snobbish about them because they are an American invention -- not real Japanese food). Remember, sushi just refers to the vinegared rice -- sashimi is raw fish. Rice is the necessary ingredient, not the fish, although certainly a lot of sushi has fish in it. Bon Appetit!

Somebody disagreed with me on this point and we nearly got into fisticuffs over the definition of what sushi is.
