Kevin, my old coworker from Tubs, came down to visit this weekend. Since this was a payweek and I had some money burning a whole in my pocket, we just hit up movies all weekend with various people. It was pretty darn awesome.

Running with Scissors
Pearl, Kevin and I went to the Edina 4 to see this on Friday night. I've actually read the book, which I enjoyed. The movie was, well, ok. I mean, it's not the most amazing film I've seen, and there were points that just reeked of plot exposition (I am reminded by the line from The Great Muppet Caper - "Why are you telling me this?" "It's plot exposition. It has to go somewhere."). However, there were some really great scenes inbetween all the wooden acting. I just with there were more of them.

Tenacious D: The Pic of Destiny
Flash forward 10 years. A bunch of college kids are sitting in the basement of their house on a Tuesday night. They gather their pipes, papers, chronic, munchies and - if they had the cash and the resources - some shrooms. They pop in this movie and proceed to destroy precious brain cells. This movie has now entered the cult stoner realm of Half Baked and basically any movie that was shown in the basement of BIG Townhouses my sophomore year. It is completely and totally Tenacious D and I laughed so hard through the whole thing. My mind is completely scarred from one scene in particular, but the music is just, well, it's Tenacious D and it is the epitome of a rock musical, the likes that Tommy has never seen.

Happy Feet
I can't joke about dead baby penguins any more. This movie is just fantastic with the CGI, voice acting and music. And there were MANY moments that I was NOT OKAY with. I don't like cute little penguins in peril. It's not cool. The environmental message was a wee bit over the top and I don't know if I could take very small kids to see this movie, but I just loved it - I really did. So much, in fact, that I bought the soundtrack off of iTunes. The little rock penguins with their oh-so-cute spanish accents were just fabulous.

Overall - great weekend was had. Lots of movies, hanging out, watching Drawn Together, doing nothing of great importance. Good times.
